Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actress since late 1980s. She is known for her roles in film and television since the late 1980s she has received various accolades like two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett is originally from New York New York. She was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Bassett was able to move with her younger twin sister in St. Petersburg Florida at five years old in order to be closer to their mother, who was separated from her father. Bassett was in high school when she was able to see James Earl Jones staring John Steinbeck in the play Of Mice and Men and realized that her desire of being an actor had been realized. Yale University New Haven Connecticut was where she earned her bachelor's in African American and master's degrees (1983). At Yale she met Courtney B. Vance a actress who was a friend of hers. They were married in 1997.
